With those requirements, Fordsell contacted the engineer who originally specified this challenging material and got a detailed description of the requirements. After contacting our metallurgist to select an alternative, we gained the engineer's support for our alternative. This material that was compatible and was consistently available from a local source; in this case, a 17-4 stainless. It provided the properties that the application demanded, offered equivalent machinability and a steady supply in the United States. The customer reviewed this proposal, compared it to the original specification and accepted our recommendation, thus providing a solution that reduced cost, improved deliverability, and minimized upfront investment in materials inventory. This solution was particularly appreciated by our customer because we provided this engineering service at a time when their engineering resources were fully extended on the new product launch. They just didn’t have the qualified chefs to shop for the best local ingredients. Your table is waiting.
